The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has published the results of the "Household Information Technology Usage Survey" for 2026. The research revealed that internet usage and access to digital services in Turkey continue to increase.
Accordingly, the internet usage rate among individuals in the 16-74 age group rose from 90.9 percent in 2025 to 92.3 percent in 2026. The internet usage rate was recorded at 94.8 percent for men and 89.9 percent for women.
WHATSAPP AT THE TOP, YOUTUBE AND INSTAGRAM FOLLOW
WhatsApp took the first place among social media and messaging applications. 90.0 percent of individuals who use the internet reported using WhatsApp. WhatsApp was followed by YouTube with 77.6 percent and Instagram with 71.1 percent. When viewed by gender, WhatsApp usage was 92.5 percent for men and 87.6 percent for women.
ACCESS TO E-GOVERNMENT SERVICES HAS INCREASED
The rate of those who used the websites or applications of official authorities within the last 12 months was measured at 76.0 percent. The rate of men using e-government services was 82.7 percent, while the rate for women was 69.4 percent.
Among age groups, the segment that used e-government services the most was the 25-34 age group with 93.0 percent. The lowest rate was seen in the 65-74 age group with 31.3 percent. 65.6 percent of users utilized e-government services to access personal information; 52.6 percent made appointments from public institutions, and 45.7 percent obtained information from official websites.
THE RATE OF THOSE SHOPPING ONLINE HAS INCREASED
The rate of purchasing goods or services over the internet has also increased. E-commerce usage, which was 55.7 percent in 2025, rose to 60.0 percent in 2026. This rate was calculated as 63.4 percent for men and 56.6 percent for women. 48.3 percent of individuals stated that they shopped online in the first three months of 2026.
ONLINE EDUCATION AND SMART DEVICE USAGE HAVE INCREASED
An increase was also observed in online learning activities in the research. The rate of those participating in education or learning activities over the internet in the last three months increased by 5.2 points compared to the previous year, rising to 22.9 percent. Among women, this rate surpassed men at 23.5 percent.
In smart device usage, internet-connected smart televisions stood out. 62.0 percent of internet users reported preferring smart televisions. The usage of robot vacuums and smart home appliances was at 18.6 percent, while the usage of smartwatches and wearable technology was at 16.7 percent.
PRICE IS THE FIRST CRITERION WHEN BUYING A NEW DEVICE
Price was the most decisive factor when purchasing a new mobile phone or computer. While 89.3 percent of participants indicated price as an important criterion, this was followed by hardware features with 74.7 percent, energy efficiency with 69.9 percent, and brand and design with 69.5 percent.
