The Household Information Technology Usage Survey by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has revealed that the weight of visual and audio content in internet usage habits in Turkey is increasing. According to the data, while video viewing maintains its top spot among the purposes of internet usage, podcast usage has recorded a remarkable rise over the last two years.
While 8.2 percent of internet users stated that they listened to or downloaded podcasts in 2024, this rate rose to 13.3 percent as of 2026. The podcast usage rate was measured at 12.7 percent for men and 13.9 percent for women. Thus, audio content consumption has become one of the fastest-growing categories in the digital content space.
Video content, meanwhile, maintained its dominant position in digital consumption. The rate of watching videos via sharing services such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok rose from 80.0 percent in 2024 to 83.4 percent in 2026. This picture shows that short-form video and social media-focused content consumption maintains its strong place in user habits.
Interest in paid digital platforms also continued its upward trend. The usage rate of services such as Netflix, Disney+, and BluTV reached 29.5 percent in 2026, up from 25.8 percent in 2024. The rate of watching broadcasts offered by TV broadcasters over the internet also rose from 39.9 percent to 45.0 percent during the same period.
News reading habits in the TÜİK data showed a more limited change. The news reading rate of internet users was recorded at 59.8 percent in 2026. The data indicates that while text-focused consumption continues, video and audio content have become more prominent in internet usage.
