Ubisoft Connect launcher requirement being removed for Steam games

An important change is being implemented for PC users who play Ubisoft games via Steam. According to an announcement by Ubisoft and Steam, the requirement to install or run the external Ubisoft Connect PC launcher in the background for Ubisoft games on Steam will be gradually removed.

This practice, which players have long criticized, required a game launched from Steam to be opened through a second client. This situation both extended the loading time of games and could lead to library and access issues in some older Ubisoft titles.

The first trial of the new system has begun with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. According to the statement, thanks to an integration tool called “Ubisoft Connect Services Steam,” players will continue to benefit from Ubisoft Connect services without having to install a separate launcher.

Features of Ubisoft Connect such as cross-progression, cross-platform support, player security, special quests, and rewards will be offered through in-game integration. Thus, the companies aim to provide a faster and more seamless startup experience via Steam while maintaining the services players are accustomed to.

While it is stated that the process will proceed gradually for now, the integration is expected to be developed and expanded to more games over time.
