Warship project nears completion: Weighing 40,000 tons

Drawing attention with its weight of over 40,000 tons, the Type 076 Sichuan is equipped with electromagnetic catapult technology, effectively serving as a floating airbase in the middle of the sea.

China's newest amphibious assault ship, the Type 076 class Sichuan, is undergoing its final comprehensive sea trials before entering service. The giant vessel, approximately 250 meters in length, features an infrastructure that can easily accommodate not only helicopters but also fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Type 076 is expected to be delivered soon to meet the navy's requirements. This new-generation combat platform distinguishes itself from its predecessors, particularly with the electromagnetic catapult system on its flight deck.

DRONE OPERATIONS WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC CATAPULT

The most significant element that differentiates the Type 076 Sichuan from its predecessor, the Type 075, is the presence of an electromagnetic launch system. Thanks to this advanced technology, large and heavy unmanned aerial vehicles can be rapidly launched from a short runway and sent on long-range missions. In this way, the ship will gain the character of a mobile UAV base in the middle of the sea.

The special arresting system integrated into the ship also allows fixed-wing aircraft returning from missions to land safely over a short distance. The Type 076 goes beyond the Type 075, which was developed primarily for helicopters and landing operations, significantly increasing its aerial unmanned operational capacity.

MULTI-PURPOSE NEW-GENERATION COMBAT PLATFORM

Beyond being just a drone carrier, the Type 076 stands out as a multi-purpose task force capable of carrying troops, armored vehicles, and various landing craft. Thanks to its advanced air operations infrastructure, it will be able to effectively utilize even large fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In this respect, it expands China's naval capability in line with modern warfare doctrines by combining both landing forces and complex aerial unmanned missions on the same platform.

TESTS CONDUCTED WITH STEALTH DRONE GJ-21

One of the platforms prepared for use with the Type 076 is the GJ-21, a new model adapted for naval operations from the GJ-11. This stealth combat drone was captured on camera during recent test flights.

In previously released computer simulations, the GJ-21 was seen being launched from the Type 076's electromagnetic catapult to perform missions. However, it is also known that this scenario has not yet resulted in an actual deck launch.

In the coming period, joint sea trials involving the integration of the Type 076 and new-generation UAVs are expected to continue. Critical stages include actual flight and landing tests to be conducted with the electromagnetic catapult.
