WhatsApp has announced new video calling features. The Meta-owned platform has introduced a new audio screen-sharing feature, a higher participant limit, and speaker spotlight features to better compete with platforms such as Zoom, FaceTime, and Google Meet.

With WhatsApp's new screen-sharing feature, you can now share audio while sharing videos with your friends during calls.

PARTICIPANT LIMIT INCREASED TO 32

WhatsApp also announced that it has increased the participant limit for video calls to 32 people. Previously, calls were limited to a maximum of 8 people. With another new feature, speaker spotlight, the person speaking now appears first in the participant list and their image is highlighted.

Therefore, it is easy to identify who is speaking.

AUDIO QUALITY HAS ALSO IMPROVED

WhatsApp also emphasized that it recently switched to the MLow codec for higher-quality calls. The new codec, with noise and echo cancellation, offers better audio quality in noisy environments and allows calls to take place in higher resolution for users with faster connections.

WhatsApp stated that the update will be rolled out over the next few weeks.
