SpaceX founder Elon Musk has once again brought his vision of colonizing Mars to the forefront. In an interview with Fox News, Musk stated that establishing a self-sustaining civilization on Mars is critical for the future of humanity, going beyond just a simple visit.
Musk noted that although they have not yet successfully landed on Mars, SpaceX has taken significant steps toward this goal. 'Our goal is not just to set foot on Mars,' said Musk, adding that making life multi-planetary would contribute to the expansion of consciousness and ensure the long-term survival of civilization.
Stating that Mars could serve as a safeguard against low-probability but devastating disasters that could occur on Earth, Musk emphasized that spreading humanity across multiple planets would increase security.
THE FUTURE EFFECTS OF THE SUN
Musk also drew attention to the Sun's natural lifespan, saying, 'The Sun will expand and destroy Earth; although this process will happen in 5 billion years, there is a risk that life will become impossible within a few hundred million years.' Reminding that Earth has existed for 4.5 billion years, Musk stated that there is a limited window of opportunity left before life is lost.
Elon Musk expressed that the ultimate goal is to build a self-sustaining and growing city on Mars, which would allow for the creation of a human colony on the Red Planet that is independent of Earth.
