YouTube takes new measures against AI-generated content

YouTube has developed a new security tool to prevent the unauthorized replication of content creators' faces and voices by artificial intelligence. This tool can detect videos on the platform that imitate a creator's face or voice.

NEW SYSTEM IS NOW IN USE

As of this week, members of the YouTube Partner Program will be able to review unauthorized uses of their voice or image by verifying their identity through the "Content Detection" tab in YouTube Studio. Creators will be able to submit removal requests for videos identified through this panel.

Initially, a specific group of creators was notified via email on Wednesday. YouTube announced that the system will be opened to a wider user base in the coming months.

SYSTEM UNDER DEVELOPMENT

In a guide released for early access users, YouTube stated that the AI-based detection tool is still in the development phase. The system may occasionally flag creators' own content by mistake. This process functions similarly to the existing "Content ID" system used to identify copyright infringements.

The AI-powered similarity detection tool, announced last year, entered a pilot testing phase in December with certain users under the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). YouTube had stated that this collaboration aimed to detect AI content featuring a person's face on the platform.

Google, YouTube's parent company, has recently been making significant investments in both generative AI tools and security systems designed to prevent their misuse. In March, a new policy was enacted that mandates the labeling of videos created or altered with AI. Additionally, measures have been taken against AI-generated music content that mimics the voices of real artists.
