3 national boxers reach the finals at the European Championships!

At the European Boxing Championships held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, Busenaz Sürmeneli and Buse Naz Çakıroğlu in the women's category, and Samet Gümüş in the men's category, have successfully reached the finals.

Three national boxers have reached the finals at the 2024 European Elite Boxing Championships held in Serbia.

In the tournament held in the capital Belgrade, two national athletes in the women's category and one in the men's category defeated their opponents in the semifinals to advance to the finals. Fenerbahçe's three national boxers, Busenaz Sürmeneli and Buse Naz Çakıroğlu in the women's category, and Samet Gümüş in the men's category, achieved the success of reaching the finals.

FIRST FINAL IN EUROPE

Olympic and world champion national boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli has reached the finals of the European Championships for the first time in her career.

Competing in the 66 kg category, Busenaz faced Slovakia's Jessica Triebelova in the semifinals. Busenaz, who already has two bronze medals from European Championships, will appear in the final for the first time and will face Albina Moldazhanova from Russia to complete the only missing gold medal in her career.

4TH FINAL FOR BUSE NAZ ÇAKIROĞLU

Buse Naz Çakıroğlu, who has two gold and one silver medal in European Elite Championships, has reached the final for the 4th time.

Defeating her Bulgarian opponent Venelina Poptoleva in the 52 kg semifinal, Buse Naz wrote her name in the final. Buse Naz, who also has an Olympic silver medal and a world championship title in her career, won gold medals in the last two European Championships in 2019 and 2022, and was the European runner-up in 2018. Buse Naz Çakıroğlu will compete against Anastasia Kool from Russia for her 3rd consecutive European championship title.

National boxer Samet Gümüş, on the other hand, wrote his name in the final in the first European Championship he participated in at the elite level.

Facing host Serbia's Omer Ametovic in the men's 51 kg semifinal, Samet defeated his opponent by knockout in the second round.

Samet Gümüş, who secured a quota for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by winning a silver medal at the European Games last year, will face Atila Bernarth from Hungary in the final.

FIRST FINAL IN MEN'S CATEGORY IN 13 YEARS

Turkey has reached the finals in the European Boxing Championships in the men's category after 13 years.

In the European Boxing Championships held in Ankara in 2011, Fatih Keleş won gold and Adem Kılıççı won silver.

Male national boxers brought medals to Turkey after 2011. While Samet, who reached the final, guaranteed a silver medal, Tuğrulhan won a bronze medal. In the men's category, Turkey had failed to win any medals in the European Championships in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
