Bosnian-Herzegovinian coach Vladimir Petkovic has been appointed as the head coach of the Algeria national football team.

The Algerian Football Federation announced that an agreement has been reached with Petkovic for the head coaching position, which had been vacant since the departure of Djamel Belmadi.

The 60-year-old Petkovic, who also managed Samsunspor for a period, has previously held positions at Lugano, Young Boys, Bellinzona, Sion, Lazio, the Switzerland national team, and most recently, Bordeaux.

Belmadi's contract had been terminated after Algeria was eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations after finishing last in Group D.
