Ali Eren Beşerler: 'Santos's biggest test is the Galatasaray match'

Former Beşiktaş defender Ali Eren Beşerler stated that the derby match to be played against Galatasaray on Sunday, March 3, will be a true test for the black-and-white team's head coach, Fernando Santos.

Former Beşiktaş player Ali Eren Beşerler made statements regarding the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby. In his statement to the AA reporter, Beşerler said, "Since he arrived, the biggest test for Santos will be the Galatasaray match. We will see Santos in this match. We will see what he does in this match, we will see his performance, and we will comment accordingly."

Noting that the derby will be difficult for both teams, Ali Eren Beşerler drew attention to the importance of refereeing and stated the following:

"Galatasaray is playing for the championship, and Beşiktaş is playing for third place. Including the last Galatasaray match and the Fenerbahçe match played before that, referee decisions are being talked about on the pitches more than football itself. Unfortunately, we cannot talk about football. This weekend, everyone's eyes will be on the performance of the referees. Unfortunately, as a country, we have moved very far away from football. We are all talking about on-field decisions on social media, all our commentators, all of us. Very unhealthy decisions are being made. Any wrong decision this weekend will greatly affect both sides."

WE WANT TO SEE SEMİH IN EUROPE

Stating that the performance of Beşiktaş's young star Semih Kılıçsoy is sufficient for Turkey but that he needs to improve himself for Europe, Ali Eren said, "He is a strong, powerful player with good ball technique and skills, a player with many attributes. He needs to improve himself even more. His current situation is at a sufficient level for Turkey, but we want to see Semih at big clubs in Europe. We want him to be better. Not just Semih, Arda Güler is also our player. We want players coming out of Turkey to have a say in Europe."

Pointing out that Demir Ege Tıknaz is also an important talent at Beşiktaş alongside Semih, Ali Eren said, "Everyone knows Semih now. There is also Demir Ege behind him. But for some reason, I don't know, while he was getting chances for a while, he is not being played right now. This kid is also a good footballer. He is one of the players who will take part in the future of Beşiktaş and the national team. He needs to be played. We need to win over the young players waiting in the wings. We don't see any effort from Santos on this matter. Thank God Semih played before Santos, otherwise he would be playing today. If it were today, Santos probably wouldn't even play Semih. Chances must be given to the youth."
