Ambitious words from Mehmet Büyükekşi ahead of Wales match

Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President Mehmet Büyükekşi stated that they arrived in Wales as leaders and want to return as leaders.

Responding to questions from members of the press at the airport upon the national team's arrival in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, TFF President Büyükekşi said, "Everything is very good. We are very excited, proud, and happy, especially after the Germany match. Our goal now is the Wales match. We came to Wales as leaders, and we want to return as leaders. It is the final match of our group. The draw will take place in Hamburg, Germany, on December 2. Our goal is to get a good draw there, and first, to advance from the group stages, and then to go even further."

When reminded that Wales lost their chance to qualify after drawing with Armenia, Mehmet Büyükekşi commented, "A match is a match. The best third-placed teams also have the right to qualify. We spoke with our coach; we played an extremely good game in Germany, and we expect the same to finish as leaders."

Emphasizing that the National Football Team has a very young and high-quality squad, President Büyükekşi spoke as follows:

"We have been saying this since the first day we took office: our goal is not just to participate in the 2024 European Championship, but to achieve better results. The Germany match was the first rehearsal for this. As you know, the teams that come to the European Championship are always successful teams that finished first or second in their groups. We will always play against strong opponents there. Winning against them is extremely important, and this was the first rehearsal for that."
