Papu Gomez, who plays for the Italian Serie A team Monza, has had his doping ban upheld.

According to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, it was stated that Gomez's appeal against the penalty was rejected.

It was noted that due to the 36-year-old experienced player's age, this ban could effectively end his career.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A banned substance was detected in a sample taken from Gomez shortly before the 2022 World Cup.

The experienced player had cited as his reason that he had taken cough syrup belonging to his son without consulting the club doctors while he was playing for Sevilla.

Following the investigations, Gomez was banned from football for 2 years on the grounds of doping.
