The Turkish Football Federation Arbitration Board has evaluated Galatasaray's appeal regarding Mauro Icardi and announced in a statement that the Argentine player's suspension and fine have been upheld. Accordingly, the 31-year-old striker will not be able to play in Galatasaray's match against Bitexen Antalyaspor in the 27th week of the Süper Lig.
The Arbitration Board's statement is as follows:
"The appeal of Galatasaray A.Ş. regarding the decision of the PFDK dated 26.02.2024 and numbered E.2023-2024/842 - K.2023-2024/1053 concerning Mauro Emanuel Icardi has been examined. As a result of the deliberation;
Regarding the appeal against the 1-match suspension and 19,500.00 TL fine imposed on Galatasaray A.Ş. footballer Mauro Emanuel Icardi for insulting opposing team fans, in accordance with Articles 41/1-a and 35/4 of the FDT and by applying Article 12 of the FDT; it has been determined that the proven violation constitutes 'Unsportsmanlike Conduct' as regulated by Article 36 of the FDT. Consequently, it was decided by majority vote, with one member dissenting on the proof and two members dissenting on the determination of the penalty, to correct and uphold the PFDK decision as a 1-match suspension and a 19,500.00 TL fine, after applying Article 12 of the FDT due to the understanding that the act was committed under unjust provocation, following the initial assessment of a 2-match suspension and 39,000.00 TL fine in accordance with Articles 36 and 35/4 of the FDT."
