According to reports in the press, the 35-year-old player, who tested positive for a banned substance in a sample taken shortly before the World Cup, has been banned from football for two years.
The Argentine footballer, who drank his son's cough syrup without consulting the club doctors of Sevilla, where he played last season, cited the syrup as the reason for the positive test result.
Papu Gomez, whose contract was terminated by Sevilla—the winners of the UEFA Europa League—on the final day of the transfer window, had signed a contract with the Italian club Monza in September.
