AKP's Trabzon candidate Ahmet Metin Genç had called Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş 'match-fixing clubs,' sparking a major backlash.
"THOSE WHO HOPE FOR GAIN FROM THE FETÖ CONSPIRACY..."
In response to the statement in question, former Fenerbahçe President Aziz Yıldırım had said the following:
"Politicians who wag their fingers at Fenerbahçe, who hope for gain from the FETÖ conspiracy, and who cling to the match-fixing conspiracy must know that they have embarked on the same path as those who shed the blood of the nation on July 15, and who turned the weapons entrusted to them on behalf of the nation against their own nation, its representative the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey), and the President."
Fenerbahçe announced that it has filed a criminal complaint regarding the incident.
"CONSTITUTES A CRIME"
The statement made by the club is as follows:
"The statements made by Ortahisar Mayor and Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Candidate Ahmet Metin Genç at a press conference organized by Trabzonspor have caused public outrage.
Attempting to gain an advantage in political competition by trying to harvest votes through football, Ahmet Metin Genç has targeted two of Turkey's most deep-rooted communities, acting with a mindset that any means are justified to win.
With this mindset, which disregards the decisions made by the courts of the Republic of Turkey, he is becoming part of a dangerous game and is clearly using the arguments of the terrorist organization regarding our July 3 case, which was a FETÖ conspiracy.
We would like to remind the politician who made these polarizing statements that;
The terrorist organization whose arguments he uses has subjected our country to countless conspiracies targeting our national values, and with the December 17-25 operations and the July 15 coup attempt, it primarily aimed at the existence and unity of our state, and targeted our President and his family.
The statements of the aforementioned politician constitute a crime both in terms of Law No. 6222 and the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
The statements also constitute a violation of the ethical rules established by FIFA.
Within the framework of these violations, if the matter is brought to FIFA's agenda, there is a high risk that the Turkish Football Federation will face heavy sanctions, considering previous precedent decisions.
Beyond all this, this press conference has been the clearest indicator of the distortion in the politics-football relationship that we, as Fenerbahçe Sports Club, have voiced until today.
We have repeatedly tried to express that the sports community should always be above politics. While we never compromise on our stance on this issue, we believe that politicians should also show the same sensitivity.
As Fenerbahçe Sports Club, the necessary criminal complaints have been filed against Ahmet Metin Genç, who made statements about us with expressions that exceed his limits."
