Aziz Yıldırım: We could not benefit from Mourinho

Fenerbahçe Sports Club presidential candidate Aziz Yıldırım, who continues his campaign ahead of the Extraordinary Elective General Assembly Meeting to be held on June 6-7, made statements during a television program.

Expressing that the board of directors consists of people who are successful in their own businesses, he pointed out that the yellow-navy team must become league champions. Yıldırım said, "Fenerbahçe has not been champion for 12 years. Unfortunately, when you are not champion, we have losses. What are these losses? First, there is a loss of fans. If children do not face pressure in the family, they do not follow the team their father supports. If you leave the child alone, they drift toward whoever is successful in Turkey and grow up with that team. We must be successful. If you do not become champion, you lose the youth of the future. To break this, we want to prevent this failure at Fenerbahçe by bringing together a leader, wisdom, and good management; people with good financial resources in the management. After us, presidents, council chairs, or federation presidents will emerge from this management. These people are already successful in business life. There is a good management. I am here for experience. Wisdom is both with me and this management. We became candidates because we are a team that can put a stop to this."

"We could not benefit from Mourinho"

Sharing his views on Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, Yıldırım said, "Whatever Obradovic is, Mourinho is the same. If I were president, I wouldn't say 'deal with Galatasaray or this or that.' I would say, 'You mind your business, brother, you look at the pitch, the rest is our concern.' But unfortunately, we reached a point where Mourinho moved to another dimension. Now he is going to Real Madrid. If Perez is elected, he is Real Madrid's coach; he coached them before. He is one of the 3-5 coaches in the world. We could not benefit from him," he said.

"We will be champions"

Inviting the yellow-navy congress members to the ballot box, Yıldırım said, "I hope for a congress worthy of Fenerbahçe. Let everyone come and cast their vote. Everything will be fine. We know the problems. We will bring and apply our experiences and what we have been through. A very valuable management is coming. Two very important projects are already being worked on. We will bring forward what we did in the past. We will also correct the mistakes we made in the past. I am not saying we will play for the championship. We will be champions. Turkey needs Fenerbahçe right now."

"We will qualify for the Champions League"

Regarding the fact that the football A-team will start the season with UEFA Champions League qualifiers, Yıldırım said the following about squad planning:

"Turkish players might not be able to come by the first qualifying round of the Champions League. None of the foreigners are leaving. If no one leaves among the players we will acquire, we will be ready for the first qualifier. By the second qualifying round, they will all have arrived, and we will pass the round more easily. We will qualify for the Champions League. I will tell all the players. As management, we will sit down and tell all the players. Our goal is to qualify for the Champions League. Then the second goal is to go for the championship. There is no problem in amateur branches. Their budgets are low. The problem for us is football."

"We can sign any player we want"

Yıldırım also expressed his dream football team with these words:

"I dream of a team that runs, fights, and plays like they do in England. Football is not being played in Turkey. We need to improve the systems so that we can reach the point where Europe is. We need to motivate the players in that way. We can do it, we have done it before. We will do it intelligently and with determination. We can sign any player we want."
