The investigation into allegations of betting and match-fixing in Turkish football has taken on a new dimension with recent detentions and the steps taken by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). The detention of referee Yasin Kol, following that of Central Referee Committee (MHK) President Ferhat Gündoğdu, has made the tension between the TFF management, the prosecutor's office, and the referee committees more visible.
In the latest link of the investigation, it was noted that Yasin Kol, who is said to be close to TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, was detained on allegations of illegal betting following a match in Trabzon. It is alleged that Kol had been demoted to a lower division in the past, but was reassigned to the top division and officiated critical matches during the Hacıosmanoğlu era.
MHK AND REFEREES AT THE CENTER OF THE INVESTIGATION
One of the most critical aspects of the process is the allegations directed at the Central Referee Committee. The reasons cited for the detention of MHK President Ferhat Gündoğdu include claims that referee reports were altered, pressure was applied to referees, and match results were influenced through these means. These allegations have moved to the center of the debate regarding the sporting integrity of the league.
Betting investigations are not limited to referees. It was previously stated that some football players and club executives were also included in the files, and that the names of Mert Hakan Yandaş from Fenerbahçe and Metehan Baltacı from Galatasaray had come up. It was reported that both players were released after a short period of detention.
Furthermore, it is recalled that proceedings were initiated against Eyüpspor and Kasımpaşa executives regarding betting allegations, and that trustees were appointed to these clubs, although the teams were not relegated for sporting reasons. This situation has brought about a debate regarding the consequences of investigations conducted under the rhetoric of "cleaning up" football.
ALLEGED TENSION BETWEEN TFF AND THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
The TFF's announcement of a list of executives who bet, which included executives from Süper Lig clubs, emerged as a new crisis point in the investigation process. The claim that the list was announced to the public without sufficient coordination with the prosecutor's office or relevant authorities led to interpretations that there is tension between the TFF and the judicial authorities conducting the investigation.
In assessments based on sources from the prosecutor's office, it was argued that the list announced by the TFF affected the integrity of the investigation. For this reason, it was claimed that the detention of Yasin Kol was not just a judicial procedure, but also read as a strong message directed at TFF President Hacıosmanoğlu.
Hacıosmanoğlu's future has also become another topic of debate. In football circles, it has been suggested that the name of Mustafa Eröğüt has begun to be discussed for the TFF presidency. This claim has not yet found an official response; however, the expectation of change in the federation's management indicates that the investigation process could have political and administrative consequences.
At this point, referee appointments in the Süper Lig, club executives, betting allegations, and federation management are being discussed as parts of the same file. How the investigations will proceed, what position the TFF management will take during this process, and whether new decisions will be made regarding the clubs are among the fundamental questions the football public is seeking answers to.
