Fenerbahçe has added the fourth Italian footballer in its club history to its squad with the signing of 36-year-old defender Leonardo Bonucci from the German team Union Berlin. Bonucci will wear the yellow-navy jersey until the end of the 2023-2024 season. After passing his medical examinations, the experienced footballer signed the contract binding him to the yellow-navy colors and will wear the number 19 jersey at Fenerbahçe.
Rising from Inter's under-19 team to the senior squad in 2006, Bonucci spent 7 seasons at Juventus throughout his career and achieved numerous successes. Winning 9 Serie A titles, 5 Italian Super Cups, and 4 Italian Cups in Italy, Bonucci also played 121 times for the Italian National Team and won the 2020 European Football Championship.
AFTER PEDRO, RANÇO, AND BALDINI
Following the Brazilian-born Italian footballer Joao Pedro, Bonucci has become the fourth Italian player in the club's history. While Brazilian footballers rank first in the 117-year history of the yellow-navy team, Yugoslavs follow in second place with 14 names. Bonucci holds the distinction of being Fenerbahçe's fourth Italian player after Ranço, Baldini, and Pedro.
The foreign player with the most appearances is the Brazilian footballer Alex de Souza. Alex, who played in 344 matches between 2004 and 2012, is followed by Nigerian defender Uche Okechukwu with 229 appearances. Aurelio played in 222 matches, while Cristian Baroni wore the Fenerbahçe jersey in 200 matches.
