Brazil-Morocco clash at the World Cup was breathtaking

Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1 in their opening match of Group C at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match, played at the New York New Jersey Stadium in the USA—which will also host the final—saw five-time World Cup champions Brazil face Morocco, who hold the title of the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals in tournament history.

NEYMAR INJURED AGAIN

In Brazil, star player Neymar was not included in the match squad due to an injury.

Morocco took the lead in the 21st minute. Saibari, who slipped behind the defense following a through ball from Diaz, sent the ball into the net with a chip shot as goalkeeper Alisson came off his line.

Morocco, who did not give their opponent any significant opportunities in the first half-hour, continued to push for a second goal. However, Brazil found the equalizer in their first serious attack. Vinicius brought the score to 1-1 with his goal in the 32nd minute.

While the first half ended with this result, the second half was largely a midfield battle. Neither team could find the desired productivity in attack.

In the 82nd minute of the match, a corner kick decision awarded to Brazil was overturned after a VAR review and changed to a goal kick.

Morocco came very close to a winning goal in stoppage time. In the 90+9th minute, goalkeeper Alisson denied Aynaoui's shot.

With no further goals in the remaining time, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
