Brazilian football legend Mario Zagallo has passed away. It was announced that the 92-year-old died on Friday.

Zagallo etched his name into football history as the first person to win the FIFA World Cup as both a player and a coach.

WHO IS MARIO ZAGALLO?

Born in 1931, Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo was a Brazilian coach and former footballer. Zagallo is the first football figure to win the FIFA World Cup as a player, head coach, and assistant coach.

Playing for the Brazilian team Botafogo between 1958 and 1965, Zagallo won 4 league titles and was part of the Brazilian national team that won the World Cup in 1958 and 1962. After retiring from football, he began his coaching career.

He was the head coach of Brazil, which became champion in the 1970 FIFA World Cup and finished 4th in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. He continued this role until the end of the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

He was the assistant to Carlos Alberto Parreira, the head coach of Brazil, which won the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He led Brazil to the final in the 1998 FIFA World Cup during his second stint as head coach between 1994 and 1998.
