Super Lig clubs have begun collecting signatures in the presence of a notary at the Union of Clubs Foundation office in Maslak to urge the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to hold an Extraordinary Elective General Assembly.
It was reported that club representatives located in Istanbul would provide their notarized signatures at the Union of Clubs, while some club representatives would do so in their respective cities.
In this context, Beşiktaş Club Second President Hüseyin Yücel and Vice Presidents Mete Vardar and Onur Göçmez also arrived at the Union of Clubs Foundation to show their support. The black-and-white executives later made statements to the press.
METE VARDAR: BEŞİKTAŞ CLUB WILL HAVE CAST ITS SIGNATURE
Starting his remarks by stating that they had gathered with a very important agenda, Mete Vardar said, “We are all watching and seeing the events that have occurred, especially recently. The reason we are here today is that we have entered a process together with very valuable club presidents and executives at the Union of Clubs. Regarding this, specifically concerning the decision stated as July 18, which we observe is not an official decision, the federation and all its boards need to go to an election much earlier.
We, along with our president and all our colleagues on the board of directors, find the July 18 decision to be very late. Beşiktaş club will have cast its signature on Monday with all 7 of its delegates. Regarding what we are discussing today, Beşiktaş may be signing on Monday, but we have had this signature in our minds for months. As Beşiktaş Club, we have expressed very clearly that this issue needs to change and that this decision should have been made much earlier.
At the point we have reached today, unfortunately, we are experiencing a season where all kinds of negativity are occurring and we are facing more difficulties than ever before. We believe that holding this election, especially before the European Championship, could also contribute more to our national team in the European Championship,” he said.
ONUR GÖÇMEZ: TURKISH FOOTBALL NEEDS CHANGE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Onur Göçmez, stating that they had come together for the future of Turkish football, said, “There is something good here. Our precious and valuable presidents are here for Turkish football. Beşiktaş is also here for the future of Turkish football. Turkish football is not in a position to lose another season. It needs to undergo a change very quickly and immediately. This change must be made not only by the management but by all its boards. All our football branch presidents and Beşiktaş are here for the future of Turkish football,” he included.
Regarding whether a date was discussed for the TFF to hold an extraordinary election, Göçmez said, “As soon as possible. There is a certain statute, there is a certain number of signatures that need to be collected. Turkish football needs a change as soon as possible.
It is not our duty to set a date for this. This is the message we are giving to our valuable federation executives here. We expect them to make a proper decision quickly in order to save the future of Turkish football. The date is a decision they will make,” he assessed.
HÜSEYİN YÜCEL: I INVITE OUR CLUBS TO BE A LITTLE MORE CONSISTENT
Second President Hüseyin Yücel stated that they were displaying their stance on this issue as Beşiktaş just as they did on the first day. Yücel said, “We gathered here to support the Union of Clubs. As Beşiktaş Club, we are at the same point today as we were on the first day. I may have a call to our clubs here, especially to some of our clubs. I invite our clubs that wake up in the morning and make one statement, and then make different statements when they go to bed at night, to be a little more consistent. As Beşiktaş, we continue to display our stance from the first day in the same way. I hope it will be for the best,” he said.
If the signatures of 40 of the delegates who have the right to vote in the TFF General Assembly reach the federation via a notary, the TFF Board of Directors is required to hold an extraordinary elective general assembly within 1 month according to the statutes. If the federation does not go to an election, the voting delegates have the right to take the matter to FIFA.
