Moroccan footballer Noussair Mazraoui, who plays for Germany's Bayern Munich, has become the target of criticism following his post about Palestine. According to a report by NTV Spor, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) MP Johannes Steiger has demanded that the club terminate the player's contract and that he be deported.
In a post on the social media platform X, Steiger stated, "The club of Kurt Landauer, which the Nazis called a Jewish club, cannot allow things to continue this way. Dear FC Bayern, please fire him immediately. Furthermore, all state options should be used to deport him from Germany."
Mazraoui, in a statement to the newspaper Bild, said, "It is truly disappointing that I have to explain myself and what I stand for. There is a situation out there where thousands of innocent people are being killed. My position is that I will work for peace and justice in this world. This means I will always be against all forms of terrorism, hatred, and violence. That is why I do not understand why the opposite is being assumed about me and why I am being associated with hateful groups. Innocent people are being killed every day because of this terrible conflict that has spiraled out of control. We must all be against this and raise our voices against it. This is an inhumane situation."
Mazraoui, who expressed his support for Palestine by sharing a photo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on his social media account and quoting from the Quran, had shared the 42nd verse of Surah Ibrahim, which translates to, "Never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do."
