The Confederation of African Football (CAF) held the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, with host nation Ivory Coast facing Nigeria in the final.
LIFTED THE TROPHY FOR THE THIRD TIME
Nigeria finished the first half of the match played at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan with a 1-0 lead, thanks to a goal by William Troost-Ekong in the 38th minute. Ivory Coast equalized with a goal from Franck Kessie in the 62nd minute, then found another goal through Sebastien Haller in the 81st minute to win the match 2-1.
Thus, Ivory Coast reached the championship in the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time, following their victories in 1992 and 2015.
PLAYERS WHO HAVE PLAYED IN TURKEY WERE IN THE SQUAD
Max Gradel, who plays for Gaziantep FK, and Serge Aurier, who transferred to Galatasaray, started in the Ivory Coast's starting eleven, while Nicolas Pepe of Trabzonspor remained on the bench.
In the Nigeria squad, Bright Osayi-Samuel (Fenerbahçe), Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor), Kenneth Omeruo (Kasımpaşa), and Ahmed Musa (Sivasspor) did not get the chance to play.
