It has been reported that fans of the German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund will protest the sponsorship deal signed with arms manufacturer Rheinmetall.

In a statement published by the Südtribüne (South Stand) fan alliance and signed by numerous supporter groups, the club's sponsorship agreement with Rheinmetall was met with backlash.

The statement emphasized a rejection of the club's leadership and all boards for allowing Borussia Dortmund's "influence" to be used to improve the public image of an arms company, while simultaneously abandoning their own values.

CALL FOR FANS TO PREPARE SIGNS AND BANNERS

The statement called on yellow-and-black supporters to bring their dissatisfaction with the Rheinmetall deal into the stadium during Borussia Dortmund's first match of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt on August 24, urging them to prepare signs and banners.

Borussia Dortmund signed a three-year sponsorship deal with arms manufacturer Rheinmetall at the end of May, and it was announced that the company's logo would appear on the Dortmund team's licensed products, on advertising boards in the stadium, and at press conferences.
