Reactions against TFF President Mehmet Büyükekşi continue in Turkish football, where on-field incidents and controversial referee decisions remain a constant topic of discussion.
Some clubs had begun collecting signatures to hold the TFF's Extraordinary Elective Financial General Assembly before July 18. While the clubs reported that 136 signatures had been collected, the TFF shared a post on its official website, stating that the number of delegates with signatures at the TFF requesting an extraordinary general assembly was 94.
As the tension between the federation and the clubs continues to rise, the TFF announced that the general assembly will be held on July 18, despite the clubs' demand for an early election.
STRIKING REMARKS FROM THE TFF'S STATEMENT!
In its written statement, the TFF, without naming any clubs, used the following expressions: "The effort by some clubs to throw the TFF and its boards in front of football fans as an inconsistent excuse for their own sporting failures, and the attempt to undermine the institutional structure of the TFF, is a betrayal of Turkish football."
The statement, which noted that "the elective congress and signature process, which some club executives have for a long time wanted to rush by prioritizing their personal ambitions, interests, and benefits over national interests, has failed to achieve its goal due to the common-sense attitude of the vast majority of our clubs," also included the phrase "As we have announced before, the TFF Elective Financial General Assembly will be held on July 18, 2024."
The announcement made on the TFF's official website is as follows:
"The Turkish Football Federation, an international institution affiliated with FIFA and UEFA whose duties and powers are determined by the laws of the Republic of Turkey, will continue to maintain its position as the governing body of Turkish football, just as it has until today.
The effort by some clubs to throw the TFF and its boards in front of football fans as an inconsistent excuse for their own sporting failures, and the attempt to undermine the institutional structure of the TFF, is a betrayal of Turkish football.
We continue and will continue to carry out our work with full transparency so that the football family in Turkey is correctly informed at every stage and under all conditions. We would also like it to be known that we will share any support and information requested by any of our clubs and club presidents so that they are not exposed to the manipulations of certain circles whose malicious intent is to devalue Turkish football.
The elective congress and signature process, which some club executives have for a long time wanted to rush by prioritizing their personal ambitions, interests, and benefits over national interests, has failed to achieve its goal due to the common-sense attitude of the vast majority of our clubs. As we have announced before, the TFF Elective Financial General Assembly will be held on July 18, 2024. We would like to thank the vast majority of the Turkish football family once again for acting extremely responsibly by prioritizing the common interests of Turkish football above all else.
In this respect, it is of great importance not to serve the atmosphere of chaos that is being attempted to be introduced into Turkish football, and for the esteemed presidents and valuable executives of our distinguished clubs, whose goal is to have a say in world football, not to refer to certain sources that have no authority or information. Because, regardless of the colors they support, our responsibility to our nation, which becomes one heart with our A National Team when the crescent-and-star jersey is involved, dictates that on the eve of the 2024 European Football Championship, the most important concentration of the Turkish Football Federation, the governing body of Turkish football, will be the success of our A National Team.
We respectfully submit this to the information of the valued public."
