Trabzonspor's experienced footballer Stefano Denswil recounted the incidents that took place during the Fenerbahçe match to the Dutch press.
In his statements to De Telegraaf, he noted that matches between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe are always competitive, stating, "I have never experienced such a toxic atmosphere before."
The experienced footballer stated that the Trabzonspor players did not feel threatened and that the provocative behavior of the fans was aimed only at the Fenerbahçe players.
HE STATED THAT THE KNIFE WAS VISIBLE
When he later looked at the footage, Denswil noted the following:
"In the footage, it can be seen that someone pulled the corner flag out of the ground and chased a player, and there is a knife on the ground."
Stating that the moment the incidents began was almost in the locker room, Denswil expressed that fans entered the pitch rapidly and that he tried to remain calm in that situation. He also mentioned that he saw moments in the footage where Trabzonspor players were trying to get the Fenerbahçe players inside safely.
"BUT THIS IS TURKEY"
Stating that he thought about his own safety and decided to go inside, Denswil said that what happened was unforgivable, adding the following:
"This is not part of football, you don't want to see this and it is unforgivable, but this is Turkey..."
