‘Deterrent penalties’ coming for violence in sports
It has been reported that the Ministry of Justice has taken action for ‘new deterrent sanctions’ following the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler.

Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca ran onto the pitch two days ago following the 1-1 draw against Çaykur Rizespor and punched referee Halil Umut Meler.
Meler, who fell to the ground due to the force of the punch, was then kicked and beaten by those accompanying Koca.
Koca and those involved in the attack were arrested. Following this, the Ministry of Justice took action.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated on his X (formerly Twitter) account that they would re-evaluate the penal provisions regarding those who commit prohibited acts as defined in the ‘Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports’ in terms of deterrence.

TRT Haber has reached the details of the regulation. According to the new regulation being worked on, it is envisaged that penalties for executives who resort to violence will be increased.
Accordingly, for crimes such as assault, a permanent ban from the pitches may be imposed depending on the severity of the violence.
The introduction of a facial recognition system for spectators is also on the agenda. Thus, those who are banned from entering stadiums due to penalties will be prevented from entering the stands by resorting to Passolig forgery.
In addition, new measures to increase stadium security may be brought to the agenda. Measures will be taken to make security forces more effective on the pitch.
