Driver who caused İlkan Karaman's death arrested
Emre Ali Önder, the driver who caused the death of national basketball player İlkan Karaman in the Datça district of Muğla, has been arrested and sent to Muğla Closed Prison after an arrest warrant was issued following his initial release under judicial control. Önder was detained in Istanbul. An indictment had been prepared against Önder for 'causing death by conscious negligence' for hitting Karaman.

Emre Ali Önder, the driver who caused the death of national basketball player İlkan Karaman after hitting him with his car in the Datça district of Muğla last year and was previously released under judicial control, has been re-arrested following an arrest warrant.
The Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed the decision of the Datça Criminal Court of First Instance to release the defendant Önder under judicial control during the first hearing of the case.
Evaluating the appeal, the Muğla 3rd High Criminal Court issued a warrant for Önder's arrest.
Önder, who was caught and detained in Istanbul, was taken to the Muğla Closed Prison after the completion of legal procedures.
WHAT HAPPENED TO İLKAN KARAMAN?
On September 8, 2024, at approximately 02:30, the car with license plate 48 AIJ 713, driven by Emre Ali Önder, lost control on Kazım Yılmaz Street and struck İlkan Karaman, who was walking on the road. The basketball player, who was seriously injured, could not be saved despite medical intervention at Marmaris State Hospital.
An indictment had been prepared against the arrested driver, seeking a prison sentence of 2 to 9 years for the crime of "causing death by conscious negligence." In the first hearing held at the Datça Criminal Court of First Instance on January 10, it was decided to release Önder under judicial control, with a travel ban, taking into account the time he had already spent in prison.
