Addressing his father in a post on his Instagram account, Messi said, “Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I haven't fully grasped the reality yet. Or rather, I don't want to accept it.”
Emphasizing that it is very difficult for him not to be able to speak with his father again, Messi stated, “I know you were suffering and that this was for the best, but you left us too soon. There was so much more we were going to experience together.”
The experienced footballer shared that Jorge Messi had asked him to play in one last World Cup, noting that his father's condition worsened shortly before the tournament began. Messi explained that this period was the first time his father had not been by his side during a tournament.
Stating that he would wait for a message from his father after every match, Messi expressed that he felt his absence more deeply during those days. The Argentine star voiced his desire to win the cup once more for his father, but admitted he could not achieve it.
In his message, Messi shared his disappointment with the words, “We reached the final, but you couldn't be there. I wanted so much to win the cup, bring it to you, and show you another one. I couldn't do it. My legs wouldn't let me anymore.”
HE SHARED HIS DOUBTS ABOUT CONTINUING FOOTBALL
Speaking about the future of his career, Messi stated that his father had been by his side from the very beginning and that he now feels he is nearing the end of the road. The star player said, “I don't know what I will do without you. I don't know how I will go on.”
Emphasizing that football is the only thing he has done throughout his life, Messi added, “Now, I have serious doubts about how much longer I will continue with this.”
At the end of his message, Messi stated that he would feel his father's presence while raising his children, bidding farewell with the words, “Rest in peace and watch over us from above, just as you did when you were alive. Thank you for everything.”
