Austrian racket Dominic Thiem has announced that he will retire from tennis at the end of the year.

In a statement on his social media account, the 30-year-old Thiem said, "2024 will be my last year in tennis. The first reason for this is the issue I have been experiencing with my wrist. It is not exactly where I want it to be. The second reason is the feeling inside me regarding the decision to quit. I have been thinking about this decision for a very long time."

Thiem, who rose to as high as number 3 in the men's singles world rankings in March 2020, achieved his only grand slam title of his career at the 2020 US Open.

Thiem succeeded in reaching the finals at the 2018 and 2019 French Open, the 2020 Australian Open, and the 2019 and 2020 ATP Finals.

Struggling in recent years due to the effects of the wrist injuries he suffered, Thiem is currently ranked 117th in the world rankings.
