Fatih Altaylı recalls 2014 after Super Cup match: 'The event that made me most ashamed to be a Galatasaray fan'

The repercussions of the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe match, which took place last night in the Super Cup final, continue.

Fenerbahçe, having decided to take the field for the Super Cup match with its U19 team, protested the TFF by withdrawing from the pitch in the 2nd minute of the match.

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, in an article published on his own website titled "The moment Galatasaray embarrassed me the most," recalled the Fenerbahçe match in 2014 when the Galatasaray men's basketball team did not take the court.

Altaylı's assessment is as follows;

"The year was 2014.

The Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe men's basketball teams had advanced to the finals in the playoffs.

The team to reach 4 wins would be the champion.

And after the first 6 matches, the score was 3-3.

Everything came down to the final match, the 7th game.

The winner would be the champion.

Galatasaray did not show up for the match that was supposed to be played on June 19, 2014.

Many Galatasaray fans, like me, were very ashamed.

Because it was a cowardly stance that had nothing to do with sportsmanship.

Reacting and seeking one's rights should certainly be done, but not showing up for the match was unacceptable.

The Council of Trustees, members, and former presidents reacted very harshly.

And this event became the one where I was most ashamed to be a Galatasaray fan.

And strangely, the Galatasaray basketball branch had embarrassed me before as well.

During the time of my close friend Yiğit Şardan's tenure as an executive, the Cemal Nayır incident occurred, and I had written to the management, 'Go to the Federation and ask them to relegate the team to the 2nd league. We cannot remain in the 1st league with this shame.'

But I was the fanatic, right!"
