In the 32nd week of the Trendyol Super Lig, Trabzonspor drew 1-1 at home against Göztepe. Manager Fatih Tekke made evaluations at the press conference held after the match. Stating that they remained below the expected level in both gameplay and individual performance in the first half, Tekke said that the team showed a reaction in the second half.
"We were down to 10 men but didn't concede chances"
Speaking about his team's fighting spirit after the red card, Tekke said, "After the red card, perhaps for the first time in my coaching life, I wanted 'chaos'. And that resulted in 1 point. We can say that we barely conceded any chances against a dynamic team like Göztepe while playing with 10 men. In this sense, the effort my players put forth was very valuable. I see the 1 point as the glass half full," he expressed.
"We are chasing second place, we have secured third"
Touching on their league goals, Tekke said, "We are chasing second place, but we have secured third. This picture is very positive in one respect. Under all these conditions, what this squad has achieved is very valuable. We have the Beşiktaş match ahead and the semi-final match against Gençlerbirliği. We have missing players; we are going through a difficult process," he spoke.
"The rebuilding team gave hope"
Giving important messages for the future of the team, Tekke said, "It was very important for a squad undergoing a rebuilding process to give people hope and reach a point where that hope could flourish. We need to evaluate these well and take the right steps. I think we have given a lot to the football public," he said.
"I am uncomfortable with the referee's decisions"
Making evaluations regarding the referee's management, Tekke stated that he did not want to criticize directly but was uncomfortable with what happened, saying, "They cannot make these types of decisions in other stadiums, but they make them here. If there were an ambiance that would guide referees not to make mistakes, perhaps these errors wouldn't happen. Why does VAR exist then? They say Pina made a gesture to the referee. Watch it, there are 50 of them elsewhere. No Pina. No Mustafa. What will we play with in the Beşiktaş match? The 4th official says 'stay calm'; of course, let's stay calm, but we are the ones who can't sleep at night," he stated.
"I do not accept third place"
Emphasizing that their goals are always higher, Tekke said, "Do I accept third place? I haven't even accepted second place in my life. I want to win. The game isn't like this, life isn't like this. When you tell the truth, everyone says something," he expressed.
