Ahead of Fenerbahçe's upcoming extraordinary general assembly, presidential candidate Hakan Safi's right to run has been put at risk due to the upcoming discharge vote. The decision to be made at the congress could change the course of the election.
As Aziz Yıldırım and Hakan Safi prepare to compete for the presidency at the Extraordinary Elective General Assembly to be held on June 6-7, a development that could shake the community has emerged. With only days left until the election, a critical legal obstacle that could change the entire course of the race has come to the fore.
''THE VOTE WILL DIRECTLY AFFECT HAKAN SAFİ''
According to the report by Talha Arslan, the discharge votes included in the 7th and 8th items of the general assembly agenda will directly determine whether presidential candidate Hakan Safi can participate in the elections.
The financial and administrative activities of current President Ali Koç and his administration between June 1, 2025, and September 21, 2025, will be presented to the members for a vote. The fact that Hakan Safi served on the Ali Koç board of directors during this exact period has become the most critical link in the election. If the Ali Koç era is not discharged financially and administratively in the vote to be held at the congress, Hakan Safi will also be automatically considered not discharged.
''ARTICLE 34 OF THE STATUTES IS CLEAR: THEY CANNOT BE ELECTED TO ANY POSITION''
The provision in the 4th paragraph of Article 34 of the Fenerbahçe Club Statutes clearly states that Safi's candidacy will be dropped in the event of a failure to be discharged. The relevant statute article contains the following strict language:
“Even if they have resigned, the Club President or Board members are responsible for their terms of office and are obliged to account to the General Assembly. Unless they are discharged by the General Assembly, they cannot be elected to any position.”
''HIS FATE MAY BE DECIDED BEFORE THE ELECTION BEGINS''
This discharge vote, which will take place before the ballot boxes are set up at the historic general assembly on June 6-7, will determine Hakan Safi's fate in the presidential race. This decision, which congress members will make by a show of hands, could cause the only rival against Aziz Yıldırım to be eliminated from the race before the election even begins. The community is now locked in on that critical day when the statute article will be applied.
