Fenerbahçe reacts to Galatasaray over illegal betting

Fenerbahçe has reacted to the "decision of non-prosecution" issued in the legal process regarding Galatasaray's sponsorship agreement, which is alleged to contain advertisements for an illegal betting company. The club emphasized that Turkish sports must be conducted according to the principles of fair competition and justice.

Fenerbahçe Sports Club has issued a written statement regarding the legal process initiated over allegations that Galatasaray entered into a sponsorship agreement containing advertisements for an illegal betting company.

The club criticized the "Decision of Non-Prosecution" issued by the prosecutor's office and stated that they would follow the legal appeal process.

The statement included the following expressions:

“Reports that Galatasaray Sports Club entered into a sponsorship agreement containing advertisements for an illegal betting company, and the statements and declarations of Galatasaray Sports Club executives confirming the accuracy of these reports, have caused deep wounds in the public conscience.

These statements made publicly by club executives within the framework of the sponsorship agreement and the developments regarding the process reveal how sensitively and meticulously this issue must be handled.

As is known, our Club has written to many public institutions, including the Spor Toto Organization Presidency, with the request that the matter be examined and evaluated with sensitivity; a criminal complaint was filed with the prosecutor's office by the Spor Toto Organization Presidency regarding the matter.

It has been learned that shortly after the criminal complaint was filed, a 'Decision of Non-Prosecution' was issued by the Prosecutor's Office.

We believe that this decision is contrary to the fundamental principles of the Turkish legal system and the public interest.

This decision, rendered as a result of the investigation, is far from what needs to be done for Turkish football to operate on a clean, transparent, and fair basis.

The Spor Toto Organization Presidency will certainly resort to the path of appeal against this decision. We wish to maintain our belief that this injustice that has emerged will be remedied as a result of this appeal.

In addition to unfair competition on the field, this unfair competition, which continues to increase off the field, must now be acknowledged by all stakeholders of the sports community, together with the relevant authorities of our state, and this unfair competition must be eliminated.

As Fenerbahçe Sports Club, we announce to the public that we will follow the legal processes and do our best to ensure that justice is served fully and completely. In the name of protecting the reputation of Turkish sports and clean competition, we invite the relevant authorities to act with a sense of responsibility without losing our trust in the law.”
