Statement from Fenerbahçe: We followed it with sadness!

Fenerbahçe has responded to the statement made by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç regarding the incident-filled Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe match.

The statement is as follows:

We have followed with sadness the following statements by our Minister of Justice, Mr. Yılmaz Tunç, which were reflected in the press today.

Regarding the words expressed by our Honorable Minister: "The footage will be reviewed. It is the Public Prosecutor's Office that will evaluate this footage. Is there a situation that goes beyond legitimate defense and harms the other party, going beyond self-defense? Is there an attack? Whether it is a fan or a football player, if a crime has been committed by either side, it will be investigated."

We consider this an injustice against our Football Team, our Technical Staff, and our community, who tried to play the game in an environment filled with water bottles, sharp objects, lighters, and metal coins thrown onto the pitch from the first second to the last moment of the 90 minutes,

who had the awareness to pick up a flare thrown onto the pitch and throw it outside, and who, despite all this pressure and provocation, did not show the slightest reaction in order not to harm the game or the struggle on the field.

The statements of our Honorable Minister, which allow those who are waiting for an opportunity to target Fenerbahçe—the victim and the only innocent party in all these events—to distort the issue, have deeply wounded us.

Being forced to get used to these attitudes and approaches when it comes to Fenerbahçe is the situation we have been trying to explain for years as Fenerbahçe Sports Club.

WHAT DID MINISTER TUNÇ SAY!

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç had spoken about the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe match, which caused great chaos in recent days, saying: "Such events should not happen on our pitches. We say that sports are brotherhood, but unfortunately, it can turn into hostility. 12 people were detained in yesterday's events and an investigation has been launched. The footage regarding those who entered the pitch and attacked is being examined."

Minister Tunç also stated that there were mutual scuffles on the field, adding: "When that footage is examined, there are mutual scuffles by the athletes of both sides. The investigation is ongoing. We have Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports. Which acts have which sanctions under this law, they are all written down."
