Fenerbahçe takes action regarding July 3: Lawsuit filed against the Treasury

Fenerbahçe has taken action due to the financial and moral losses the club suffered during the match-fixing conspiracy process in football, which was initiated by FETÖ on July 3, 2011.

The Yellow-Navy club, which filed a compensation lawsuit against the Treasury for 1 billion 856 million TL, argued that its brand value had suffered damage that is difficult to compensate.

Club lawyers, who submitted the petition to the High Criminal Court, demanded a total of 1 billion 856 million lira in compensation, consisting of 100 million TL for moral losses and 50 million Euros (approximately 1 billion 756 million TL) for financial losses. 

In the petition, it was emphasized that Fenerbahçe is one of the most deep-rooted football clubs and has more than 25 million fans both in the country and abroad, and it was stated that the club has provided great services to Turkish sports for over 100 years. In the petition, where the July 3 process was also explained in detail, it was stated that the Istanbul Special Authorized Public Prosecutor's Office alleged that match-fixing or incentive bonus activities were carried out by persons connected to Fenerbahçe regarding matches played in the league on various dates in 2011.

The petition stated, "During this period, it suffered great financial and moral losses, and suffered irreparable damages by not being able to participate in European cups despite qualifying in two different periods." 

According to the report by Arzu Kaya from Sabah, the petition, which explains that a lawsuit was filed in 2011 and prison sentences were given to Fenerbahçe executives in 2012, used the expressions: "Although it was stated many times by Fenerbahçe during this period that the July 3 process consisted of a conspiracy, that an operation was carried out against Fenerbahçe, and that the decisions made were unfair and unlawful, these statements were not taken into account by the administration and the courts." 

"BRAND VALUE SUFFERED DAMAGE THAT IS DIFFICULT TO COMPENSATE"

In the petition, which stated that it was understood by the court decision that the process was a conspiracy, the sentences "Even though Fenerbahçe has been cleared, it has been greatly wounded by the match-fixing conspiracy, its brand value has been damaged to a degree that is difficult to compensate, athletes have been lost, and great financial losses have been experienced" were included.

LAWSUIT AGAINST THE TREASURY

Fenerbahçe Sports Club, which filed a lawsuit against the state treasury, demanded a total of approximately 1 billion 856 million lira in compensation, 100 million lira of which is moral and 50 million euros of which is financial. The club requested the TL equivalent of the euro, calculated over the exchange rate on the payment date, with the legal interest to accrue from July 3, 2011.

It also requested that the compensation demanded in TL be given with its legal interest. Fenerbahçe also requested the restoration of its reputation from the court.
