Fenerbahçe to continue in UEFA Europa League: Draw ends Champions League run

Fenerbahçe faced French side Lille at home in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, having lost the first match 2-1.

The Yellow Canaries started the match at Ülker Stadium with high pressure, and came very close to scoring in just the 24th second with a header from Edin Dzeko, but the ball went just wide.

The yellow-navy team looked dangerous in the 38th minute. In an attack developing from the right wing, Tadic met a through ball from Mert Müldür behind the defense and passed to Saint-Maximin at the far post. Saint-Maximin controlled the ball in the penalty area and fired a shot with the inside of his foot, but the ball went just wide of the post.

Although both Fenerbahçe and Lille created dangerous positions in the opponent's half during the first period, no goals were scored, and the teams went to the locker rooms tied at 0-0.

Fenerbahçe came very close to scoring in the 82nd minute of the match. Osayi-Samuel's shot from outside the penalty area hit the post and returned to the field of play.

Fenerbahçe found the goal they were looking for in the 90+1st minute. From a long throw-in by Jayden Oosterwolde from the left wing into the penalty area, the ball headed down by Edin Dzeko deflected off Lille defender Bafode Diakite and into the net, bringing the score to 1-0 for Fenerbahçe.

Although our representative pushed for a goal in the remaining time, the normal time of the match ended 1-0, and the game went to extra time.

Lille was reduced to 10 men in the 109th minute of the match. Lille's Algerian defender Aissa Mandi was shown a straight red card after a harsh foul on İrfan Can Kahveci.

Lille was awarded a penalty after a VAR review for a handball by Jayden Oosterwolde inside the penalty area. Jonathan David stepped up to take the penalty and brought the score to 1-1 in the 118th minute.
