Since there is no natural grass on the island, matches mostly take place on hard sand surfaces or a limited number of artificial turf pitches. Furthermore, because there are no road connections between cities in Greenland, the arrival of teams and fans to the tournament mostly depends on expensive sea transport or, at times, helicopter flights. These transportation difficulties make participation in the tournament an achievement in itself.
