Former footballer who played in Turkey involved in major traffic accident

Former Nigerian footballer Tijani Babangida, who once played for Gençlerbirliği, was involved in a major traffic accident in Nigeria along with his brother Ibrahim Babangida, who was also a footballer.

The accident occurred two days ago on the highway from Kaduna to Zaria in Nigeria. Tijani Babangida's brother, Ibrahim Babangida, lost his life in the accident.

While 50-year-old Tijani remains in critical condition, it was reported that his wife and an employee are also in life-threatening condition.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced that Babangida is conscious.

Emmanuel Babayaro, General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, stated in his announcement, "Let us pray for our president, Tijani Babangida, who was involved in a horrific car accident on the Kaduna-Zaria highway."

Tijani Babangida played 36 times for the Nigerian national team and scored 5 goals.

He was part of the Nigerian team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Tijani played for Gençlerbirliği on loan in 2001.
