Galatasaray Sports Club organized an event for children living in a container city in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquakes described as the "disaster of the century," as part of the October 29 Republic Day and the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Republic.
At the event held at the Galatasaray Sports Club NEF Foundation AFAD Living Space in the Onikişubat district, where approximately 1,500 earthquake survivors are staying, children had a fun time with music and clowns in the play area set up for them.
During the event, which was also attended by Galatasaray Sportif AŞ Deputy Chairman Erden Timur, T-shirts with the inscription "Galatasaray is the face of the Republic" (Cumhuriyetin 100'ü Galatasaray), cotton candy, and various gifts were distributed to the earthquake survivor children.
In his statement, Erden Timur wished God's mercy upon those who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquakes and a speedy recovery to the injured.
Reminding that many sorrows were experienced due to the earthquakes, Timur stated that they have been in the region since the first day of the disaster.
Expressing that they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic with great enthusiasm, Timur noted that tomorrow is the first day of the new century and said, "Tomorrow is the first day of the new century, so the most important thing is hope. We are a young Republic of 100 years. As a nation, we have much more work to do in the new century. There are sorrows currently being experienced in the world. There are sorrows being experienced in Palestine. May this be the beginning of a century where no one remains indifferent if there is suffering anywhere in the world, regardless of language or religion."
