In the Ziraat Turkish Cup quarter-final match, Galatasaray defeated Fenerbahçe 2-1 away from home to secure their place in the semi-finals. Galatasaray Second President Metin Öztürk made statements to the press after the match.
"WE DIDN'T LET THEM TOUCH THE BALL IN THE FIRST HALF"
Starting his remarks by expressing his happiness with the victory, Öztürk said, "But there are always two classic things; we crushed them here. Especially in the first half, we didn't let them touch the ball. Since our president was suspended again, I watched it in his place just like last year. I had a screen in front of me. Last time, I didn't understand the penalty either. A match that should have been 6 ended 2-1. This time, I didn't understand the offside. I waited for the line, halftime came and I couldn't see the line. Where was it offside, where was it not... In the end, they gained resistance with the 2-1 score and the match ended without the gap widening," he stated.
"I THANK OUR FANS"
The yellow-red executive also criticized the way Galatasaray fans were admitted to the stands before the match, saying, "Our spectators are showing an incredible example of sacrifice. Every time they suffer great hardship here. One-tenth of the treatment we show to Fenerbahçe spectators is not shown to us here. I don't know how this is managed. I would like to thank our loyal fans once again," he said.
"WHERE DOES MOURINHO GET THIS COURAGE FROM"
Touching upon the physical intervention by Fenerbahçe Manager Jose Mourinho against Okan Buruk after the final whistle, Metin Öztürk said, "We thank our coach Okan and our footballer brothers for their efforts. The incident that happened at the end is an attack not only on Galatasaray and the Galatasaray manager but on Turkish football. I don't know where Mourinho gets this courage from. He insults Turkishness and there is no penalty. He gets a 4-match ban, it is reduced to 2 matches, and he serves 1 of them in the Turkish Cup. Today he attacked coach Okan. We have great difficulty understanding these things. I assume that the Turkish Football Federation and the observers must have seen this. Both our coach Okan and Mourinho went and congratulated the referees. Then, while our coach Okan was continuing, Mourinho first attacked verbally, then physically. Where in the world can he do this? What does he think Turkey is? I suppose the Fenerbahçe management will give the necessary punishment before the federation does," he added.
