Galatasaray wins at home, advances to quarterfinals

Competing in Group A of the Champions Cup organized by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation Europe (IWBF Europe), Galatasaray has advanced to the quarterfinals as the group leader.

The Group A matches were hosted by the yellow-red club at the Şehit Mustafa Özel Sports Complex in Yenibosna.

Having defeated Spain's Bidaideak Bilbao BSR 101-98 after two overtimes on the first day, Galatasaray played two matches today. The yellow-reds first beat the German team Köln 99ers 73-59, and then defeated the French representative Hornets Le Cannet 67-65 in their second match.

Finishing the group with 3 wins in 3 matches, Galatasaray advanced to the quarterfinals as the leader. The quarterfinals will be played in two groups of four in Germany and Spain from March 7-10. The 4 teams that finish in the top 2 of their groups will compete for the championship in the Final Four, which will be hosted by Spain from May 2-5.

The match between Galatasaray and Hornets Le Cannet was also attended by Galatasaray board member Rıza Tevfik Morova and Bahçelievler Mayor Hakan Bahadır.

"WE BUILT A SQUAD TO WIN"

Galatasaray Club Board Member Rıza Tevfik Morova stated that they want to relive the international championships they previously won in wheelchair basketball.

Speaking to an AA reporter after the final match, Morova said, "The Champions League group stage was very important for us. Our coach Sedat built a good team. We, as the management, continue our support. Our goal is to start experiencing our old championships again. We will be in Germany or Spain for the next round. I congratulate our boys. They fought very well. We are very happy to have advanced from the group as leaders."

The yellow-red team's head coach, Sedat İncesu, stated that they have built a new squad of young players and said the following:

"I congratulate my athletes. We won 11 international trophies between 2008 and 2018. In the following period, we created a squad that is a candidate to win the Champions League again by turning to young players with a new restructuring. Our management's support is very important.

We started this season with the goal of winning two trophies. The investments we made in young players yielded very good results. We added three Iranian athletes to them. They also produced very good results. We want to push the doors of Europe again. This time, we aim to win with the children of our own geography, but it will not be easy. It has never been easy."
