Referee performances in the Süper Lig continue to be a subject of debate in the sports community.
Mustafa Çulcu, a former referee who once served as the President of the Central Referee Board (MHK), has put forward a claim regarding Süper Lig referees that is set to spark significant discussion.
Çulcu alleged that Süper Lig referees are entering into agreements with lawyers for large sums of money to win compensation for insults they receive on social media.
Claiming that referees are winning compensation for social media insults, Çulcu stated the following:
"They have turned it into a business. A lawyer tells an active top-level referee, 'Let's give you 1 million. Let us handle the defamation lawsuits.' The referee accepts this offer. Then they tell other referees.
The other referees say, 'We received 5 million each.' That referee goes back to the lawyer and says, 'I want 5 million too.' The lawyer agrees. Expectations on the other side rise due to the mistakes made in these matches.
I suppose they are doing business whenever they are insulted. We are talking about 5-10 millions. We are talking about 150-200 lawsuits. Discipline and control have been lost."
