Gençlerbirliği, one of the teams in the Trendyol Süper League, has released a statement regarding the transfer ban imposed on the club by FIFA. The capital city representative stated that the decision stemmed from the process related to the payment that needed to be made to PFC CSKA Moscow as part of the Sekou Koita transfer.
In the statement released by the club, it was noted that there were financial obligations regarding the transfer fee in accordance with the contract signed with CSKA Moscow, which is affiliated with the Russian Football Union. Gençlerbirliği stated that the payment process was initiated to fulfill these obligations and that international money transfer transactions were carried out within the required timeframe.
The statement emphasized that the payment could not be completed through the current banking system due to international sanctions against the Russian Federation. The club noted that this situation resulted from the "direct impact of sanctions applied in the international financial system."
Gençlerbirliği stated that it maintains its will to fulfill its contractual obligations and announced that contacts with relevant institutions are ongoing to ensure the payment can be made in accordance with international regulations. The statement conveyed that the necessary applications have been made to FIFA and that the process is being closely monitored.
The club management also stated that it continues to be sensitive about acting in accordance with national and international legal rules, FIFA regulations, and contractual obligations. Gençlerbirliği announced that legal and administrative efforts are continuing to resolve the process as soon as possible.
At the end of the statement, emphasizing the club's 103-year history and institutional responsibility, it was stated that the board of directors is focused on both the healthy conclusion of the current process and the goals of a strong financial structure, a strong squad, and sustainable sporting success.
