Governor's Office announces: Legal action initiated against 5 people for attempted assault on stadium manager during Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray derby

The Istanbul Governor's Office has announced that legal action has been initiated against 5 individuals regarding the incidents that occurred on the pitch following the derby match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

The statement included the following remarks:

"It has been observed that speculative reports have been published in various media outlets regarding the incidents that took place during the Galatasaray – Fenerbahçe match played on Sunday, 19.05.2024, at 19.00.

The events that occurred following the match between two of our country's distinguished clubs unfolded as follows:

- All security measures regarding the Galatasaray - Fenerbahçe football match were taken by our Istanbul Police Department or coordinated with private security units.

- During the match, approximately 51 thousand spectators for the home team and 2,318 spectators for the visiting team took their places in the stands.

- During the match, a total of 35 individuals who did not comply with Law No. 6222 (throwing foreign objects, unauthorized spectator entry, causing disturbance, chants containing threats and insults) were processed.

- After the match ended, the internal security measures taken within the stadium were terminated upon the instruction of the Match Security Supervisor.

- Fenerbahçe Club President Mr. Ali Koç arrived at the stadium at 22.10, 70 minutes after the match ended. After congratulating the players in the locker room, he suddenly changed his mind while about to exit the stadium and, along with his accompanying delegation, bypassed the private security providing stadium security and headed onto the pitch.

- The delegation accompanying the Fenerbahçe Club President attempted to unfurl a flag and take photos after entering the pitch, and physical intervention was made against Galatasaray Club Stadium Manager A.Ç., who wanted to prevent this.

- Upon the incident, our police forces tasked with ensuring the safety of the Fenerbahçe Football Team entered the pitch and intervened in the events.

- After the incidents on the pitch ended, the Fenerbahçe delegation's exit from the stadium was ensured at 22.52.

- Following the match, in line with the instructions of the Press and Sports Prosecutor, legal action was initiated against 5 individuals who attempted to assault Stadium Manager A.Ç.

- Identification efforts for the individuals determined to have been involved in the incidents inside the stadium are ongoing.

- The administrative and judicial investigation initiated regarding the matter is continuing, and an investigation has also been launched into personnel who may have been negligent.

- The judicial investigation is being conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."
