Göztepe has made a decision regarding goalkeeper Luka Gugeshashvili, who reacted to fans in a social media post following the team's 4-2 loss to Gaziantep FK in the Süper Lig.
The İzmir-based club announced that a disciplinary process has been initiated for the 27-year-old Georgian goalkeeper and that the player will train separately from the team until this process is concluded. The statement from the yellow-red club included the following: "A disciplinary process has been initiated by our club regarding our Professional Football A Team player Luka Gugeshashvili due to the events that occurred following the Gaziantep FK match played last night. Until the disciplinary process is concluded, our player will train separately from the team."
Gugeshashvili had conceded four goals in the first half of the Gaziantep FK match before being replaced by Arda Özçimen in the second half.
Responding on his social media account to the Göztepe fans who whistled at him after the match, the goalkeeper stated that he always fights on the pitch until the final whistle, adding, "No one can question my fight, my character, and the effort I put in for this jersey."
In his post, Gugeshashvili reacted with the words, "What you did today was not being a fan," while also noting that he respects the true Göztepe fans.
