NEC Nijmegen footballer Bas Dost, who suffered a heart attack during the match against AZ Alkmaar, has announced that he is taking a break from football.

In his statement, Bas Dost said, "I have undergone numerous tests. The doctors told me that there is inflammation in my heart muscle. I was very lucky that I was successfully resuscitated on the pitch. I am grateful to the doctors of Nijmegen and AZ Alkmaar."

Announcing his break from football, Dost stated, "The tests will continue in the coming days. I will need to rest to fully recover from this situation. After this rest, I will have a better idea about my future. For now, I am taking a break from football. I will spend my time with my family from now on. I hope everyone respects this."
