Field hockey player Matt Dawson has sent shockwaves through the sports community with his decision. The Australian athlete had his finger amputated because he did not have time to wait for his broken finger to heal.
The 30-year-old athlete, who wanted to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, broke his right finger during a training session in Perth two weeks ago.
After doctors stated that the broken finger could take months to heal, Matt Dawson made a new move. The field hockey player, determined to compete in the Olympics, had his broken finger amputated at the joint.
Sixteen days after his injury, Dawson will be on the field with his team against Argentina on Saturday.
