Laser scandal at the derby: Fan receives stadium ban

During the derby match between Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, a fan identified as B.Y., who shone a laser into the eyes of Beşiktaş player Gedson Fernandes during a penalty kick, has received a sports ban. The incident occurred in the 36th minute of the match at Ülker Stadium.

Teams from the Istanbul Sports Security Branch Office detained B.Y., who had shone the laser from the stands. B.Y. was referred to the Anatolian Courthouse, where the proceedings were completed. In his statement to the prosecutor's office, B.Y. stated that he is a Fenerbahçe fan and frequently attends matches, claiming that the incident happened in the heat of the moment and was not planned.

B.Y. said, 'My friends who knew I had a laser with me and the fans around me told me to shine it into the player's eyes during the penalty. This was something I did out of the excitement that comes with being a fan. I had no intention of harming anyone and I regret the incident. I handed the laser device over to the police,' he said.

Under the Law on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports, B.Y. was given a one-year ban from watching matches in the stadium. Additionally, he will be required to report to the police to sign in on match days during this period.
