Mersin Spor Kulübü announces new season goal: 'We will return to the Super League'

The new season goals for Mersin Spor Kulübü, which will compete in the 2026-2027 season of the Turkey Insurance Basketball League, have been shared with the public. At a meeting held at the Mersin Journalists Association, MSK management, the technical staff, and the team captain made statements regarding their return to the Super League, squad restructuring, youth development, and infrastructure projects.
The meeting was attended by MSK President Mustafa Özünlü, Board Members Erol Dibo and Mehmet Deniz Örener, General Manager Namık Yazlar, Head Coach Burak Gören, and team captain Orhan Aydın Hacıyeva. Mersin Journalists Association President Kaya Tepe also stated that the city's press would stand by Mersin's teams, saying, "We want to write about our city's successes. We will support our teams and do whatever is necessary for their development."
MSK Board Chairman Mustafa Özünlü reminded everyone that after the misfortune experienced last season, the club will continue its journey in the Turkey Insurance Basketball League. Emphasizing the club's corporate structure and goals, Özünlü stated that MSK has the strength to get back on its feet.
GOAL: CHAMPIONSHIP AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Özünlü stated that they have formed a strong technical team and player group ahead of the new season. Expressing that transfer efforts were carried out in line with the report of Head Coach Burak Gören, Özünlü said they have received positive signals from the team in preparation matches.
Stating that the club is not only focused on the success of the A-team, Özünlü announced that a new facility within the Macit Özcan Sports Complex, where 4 teams can train simultaneously, is nearing completion. Özünlü emphasized that investments in youth development are important for bringing young people together with sports.
General Manager Namık Yazlar also expressed that they aim to be promoted to the Super League at the end of the season by making the best use of the opportunities provided by the management. Yazlar noted that alongside the A-team's goals, youth development efforts will also continue for the future of the club.
Head Coach Burak Gören stated that Mersin is an important city with its basketball culture and sports history, and that he is proud to serve this city. Gören said, "Our goal is, of course, the championship, to return to where we belong and deserve to be. We have built an important team for this purpose."
Emphasizing that city support will be decisive for success, Gören stated that if the arenas are full, the players will fight with all their might on the court to make Mersin happy. According to Gören, promotion to the Super League is an intermediate goal for the club; they will work for even greater goals afterward.
Team captain Orhan Aydın Hacıyeva said he came to Mersin because he believed in the structure and squad of MSK. Stating that they are a newly formed team and are building their system and team chemistry step by step, Hacıyeva said, "Our goal is to lift the trophy at the end of April."
